Morgan Stanley's Finance division is looking for an Information Processing and Communications (IP&C) Manager to join the Infrastructure Controllers Group.
The Infrastructure Controllers Group is part of European Management reporting and has responsibility for being the financial support for infrastructure and back office.
The group is made up of three main areas: • Controllers for Support Services: Operations, Finance, HR, Corporate Services and other support; • IT (IT Finance) Controllers; Controllers for Corporate Services, Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Construction / Fixed Assets
IT Finance comprises two main streams – IP&C and Manpower. In London there are 4 team members. There is also a team in Budapest (5 people) who are responsible for liaising with accounts payable, report production, monthly controllership functions, writing commentary and investigating variances.
Manage the team responsible for cost management and reporting of Information Processing and Communications (IP&C) and IT BCP costs in EMEA. IP&C comprises Market Data, Compute and Storage and Telecommunications. Forecast for 2009 amounts to $355MM allocated and direct costs in EMEA.
Reporting • Review of reporting output prepared by the team to ensure it is accurate, complete and presented to a high standard and ensure all deadlines are met • Review and overhaul of reporting output to allow business decision making and cost management initiatives in light of cost transparency project and metrics reporting • Staff Management • Indirect management of IP&C controllers including supervision, coaching and development. Team is in Budapest with local reporting lines. Will require virtual team management • Review output of IP&C Team members • Managing workflow between team members • Client Relationships • Key point of contact for IT Business management for IP&C, BCP, MER and Branch related issues • Partnering with IT client and Business Management to provide ad-hoc reporting where required • Liaise with Global counterparts/clients regarding project expenditure impacting on EMEA region for reporting and budgeting purposes • Supervise and respond to queries from BUs on IP&C, BCP, MER and Branch related issues
Month End • Supervision of team responsible for month end process and preparation of monthly management reports in accordance with strict deadlines • Includes detailed review and commentary of financial information and identifying areas for detailed analysis or further investigation by silo controllers. Ensuring corrections are made where necessary • Ad-hoc task management for month end purposes • Ownership of IP&C inventories where appropriate, including review of fluctuations with silo controllers subject to business understanding • Assist in review and sign off month end balances as 3Rs Reviewer for IP&C Accounts, WIP and WASH and Suspense accounts where relevant. This includes management of reconciliation function ensuring evidence for all owned balance sheet accounts. • Oversee the month end process including: • Assist the team in the investigation of accrual data and scrutiny of material balances • Ensure all costs are allocated out accurately and in full. Investigate and manage the recoveries process where this does not occur
Quarterly • Preparation of the Quarterly Board report including commentary.
Annual Events • Ownership of budgeting and forecasting process for EMEA IP&C and IT costs for Branches. Includes submission, review and reporting thereof • Run rate review including liaising with IT Business Management to understand business drivers of various costs and major projects that will affect the budget/forecast submission
Other • Key point of contact for Global Team Members for IP&C • Process improvement where necessary including identifying areas for streamlining and efficiency and devising and implementing new processes to achieve this • Report renovation where necessary to ensure client’s information needs are continually being met • Accounting policy review and update (relative to IT Finance) • Project finance overview, modelling and reporting thereon.
Skills Required • Strong communication skills and an organised approach • Self starter willing to challenge the status quo • Qualified accountant with a strong academic background • High regard for attention to detail and accuracy • Analytical and problem solving abilities are essential • A good understanding of the principles of cost allocations • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills (pivot table knowledge useful) • Must be confident and demonstrate strong inter personal skills • Staff management and team leadership experience
