Our Client is a leading Investment Bank based in Johannesburg and they are about to launch a project to implement OTC Equity Derivatives on the Sophis platform.

There is an exciting opportunity for a person to fill the Lead Business Analyst role. Sophis is a leading provider of cross-asset trade and risk management technology specialising in equities and equity derivatives and has consistently been placed in the No 1 position in its category by Risk Magazine for several years.

• Ensuring that all major decisions affecting the way in which certain functionalities are implemented are recorded, including the rationale for the decision and the reasons for rejecting the alternatives. Also ensuring that all major decisions are communicated to all stakeholders in order to prevent any dissent at a later stage in the project.

• Working with the Sophis consultants to gather detailed business requirements and to translate these into a detailed configuration plan using standard templates provided as part of Sophis’s implementation methodology.

• Where any part of the requirements cannot be met through configuration, providing the functional specifications to the technical team that will be tasked with developing enhancements using the Sophis Toolkit.

• Working with the BPR team in order to analyze existing processes with the view to re-engineer / optimize processes as part of the implementation project. A specific objective is to achieve the highest degree of straight through processing.

• Overall responsibility for the correct configuration of Sophis (e.g. global settings, portfolio structures, Counterparties, SSI’s, user views &reports, instrument definitions, IR curves & volatility surfaces, workflows, etc, etc)

• Making configuration decisions that promote easier maintenance and the ability to extend the Sophis platform to other asset classes in future. Also to ensure that it is able to efficiently integrate with both up-stream and downstream systems.

• Liaising with the RADA (GL) team to ensure that the accounting rules for products implemented on Sophis are properly defined and configured in FSAH.

• Understanding the systems that will need to interface from/to Sophis and all inter-dependencies.

• Creating test cases and overseeing functional, integration and user acceptance testing activities to ensure that the delivered solution meets agreed business requirements and functional / process specifications.

The successful candidate will be able to understand project and structure own and other tasks to ensure project delivery, able to mentor and train other Business Analysts. You will be actively contributing to wider project issues. Assist Project/ Programme manager to identify dependencies and issue resolution. Able to produce templates and documents across projects.

• Able to review and comment on junior Business Analyst documents.

• Strong facilitation skills in order to gather business requirements and workshop functional / process specifications, with ability to conceptualize and document in detail the As-Is picture as well as the To-Be and applying his/her own criteria and suggestions to re-engineer processes in order to optimize performance and / or costs.

• Strong analytical skills, using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; competency in conceptual reasoning.

• Able to understand the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices and processes.

• Ability to discuss multiple aspects and impacts of issues and project them into the future; comfortable with complexity.
