Planning and Execution • Oversees adherence to US and UK GAAP and manages accounting and financial reporting on all differences (this includes ensuring all retirements, additions and re-life amendments are processed accurately and promptly) • Responsible for fixed asset process controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance including a physical-to-book reconciliation for material movable assets • Organises monthly meetings with the IT manager, new stores and renovations project managers, maintenance manager and real estate manager to discuss the progress of all projects and the accounting and forecasting implications • Advises on store expenditure that triggers the Capital Goods Scheme to ensure action is taken to avoid any liabilities caused by exempt income Business Requirements • Owns the capital accounting process flow for the UK and Ireland markets, from purchase order through to entry to the fixed assets ledger. This involves both executing tasks and managing the completion of tasks by others (some in market and some located in US). • Supervises the maintenance of the fixed asset register for accounting, legal and tax compliance to period end and year end deadlines • Produces month end variance analysis and commentary on capital spend (new stores and renovations); depreciation; maintenance, special projects and sundry other P&L lines. • Reviews (preparing some) fixed asset balance sheet reconciliations and ensures their completeness in accordance with the period end timetable • Advises commercial analysis on capital spend requests as and when required • Financial support on maintenance, running the monthly financial review of the outsourced maintenance vendors (Serviceline & Enterprise) and providing any financial support in contract negotiations. • Preparation of accruals and other journals resulting from the monthly meetings with the IT manager, new stores and renovations project managers, maintenance manager and real estate manager. • Carries out quarterly capital review – looking at capital and revenue spend vs plan and understanding variances • Production of all required statutory account supporting schedules relating to capital accounting • Calculates capital allowances for the UK tax return and liaises with tax compliance advisors to support Corporation Tax calculations and filings Decision Making Parameters Makes decisions within set parameters, policies and practices. Would need to consult and gain approval from the Senior Financial Accountant for the processing of material journals and any proposed changes to accounting processes and practices. Key advisor on structure of fixed assets accounting policies and procedures, financial controls and best practice. Experience Strong fixed asset accounting experience in a large, multi site operation. Exposure to both US and UK GAAP accounting. Very strong systems skills, preferably with Oracle experience and advanced Excel highly desirable Qualifications Qualified accountant with post qualification experience.
