Team Overview

The Liability Driven Investment team is responsible for the design, implementation and management of solutions for investors that are focused on generating sufficient returns to meet liabilities whilst managing the liability risks inherent in those payments.

The team is part of the multi-asset division of Schroders.

Overview of role

Key duties

Meet the performance objectives for the portfolios assigned to manage.


Ensure that portfolios are managed in accordance with the stated investment process for the respective products.


Ensure that the models and portfolios are managed within the agreed risk framework for the respective products, and that and breaches of investment parameters are escalated to the Desk Head in a timely manner.


Ensure that the portfolios are managed in accordance with the investment mandate agreed with the client.


Ensure that sufficient personal training is undertaken each year to satisfy threshold competency requirements.


Contribute to the generation new products.
 - Play a key role in ensuring that the portfolios are managed in a strong control environment using scaleable investment techniques.
 - Contribute towards obtaining favourable ratings from the consultant community
 - Supervise members of the investment team for whom there is line management responsibility

Essential Skills

Detailed understanding and experience of:

-LDI instruments

-Actuarial liabilities

-Investment Management Processes and risks

A strong understanding and ability to use excel to generate investment management tools

Ability to work constructively with colleagues within the team and across different functions both within and external to Schroders

Attention to detail.

Desire to take ownership and responsibility for the mitigation of the business risks arising in a portfolio management role

Desirable Skills

An ability to take responsibility for and lead projects that will make material changes to the investment infrastructure and processes

An understanding of and a desire to participate in the capital markets including identifying and communicating the implications of changes in market levels and conditions for the LDI business model and clients’ requirements

An intellectual flexibility and maturity that can understand both the details of a problem and also the relevance/importance of those issues when the problem is seen in its wider context. 

The successful candidate would have one (or more of) the following experience/qualifications:

-Two or more years investment banking in front or middle office with investment systems/processes exposure as well as exposure to the interest rate/inflation/LDI/derivatives trading and/or sales desks

-Two or more years investment consulting or actuarial background with directly relevant LDI experience

-Two or more years investment management (portfolio construction) experience

A high level of competence in visual basic or other programming languages/applications
