Leading global financial services provider is seeking a retail and commercial banking lawyer with around 4-5 years’ PQE experience to join its legal team in London. Reporting to the Executive Director, Legal (UK), in London, the successful candidate would be part of a team of lawyers, but would take the lead role on advising the retail and commercial banking team on all legal and regulatory issues and as such, will have a good level of experience to take responsibility covering a broad range of finance and compliance issues for this area. The role requires close working relationships with business partners (based in London and Madrid) and the compliance department on new business initiatives and developments in retail and commercial banking products and services. So, the ideal candidate will be a capable individual who is able to lead the compliance function and inspire the confidence of business colleagues and drive legal risk management forward in this area. Responsibilities will include: - advising on the Consumer Credit Act 2006, implementation of the Payment Services Directive and the Consumer Credit Directive, complaints, fraud, anti-money laundering, insolvency, data protection, and the unfair contract terms regulations;
- reviewing marketing materials and advising on the legal and regulatory implications relating to the development, sale and distribution of new products (including, packaged retail investment products) to retail investors;
- providing first-line practical, commercial and best-practice legal advice to the retail and commercial banking business team at all levels within the organisation.
The role would best suit a UK qualified solicitor (preferably from a Magic or Silver Circle firm) or a barrister with relevant in-house legal experience within the UK financial services industry. As an individual, the successful candidate will display gravitas, agility, commercial pragmatism, an ability to inspire confidence at all levels, and both the drive and maturity required to deliver results under pressure.
