Job Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
High level Linux systems administrator with at least 2 years Linux (Red Hat preferred) experience in a commercial IT environment. Expertise required includes system installation, configuration and administration, system monitoring and implementing new technology solution designs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and troubleshoot new & existing systems to support
Implement key automation tools for streamlining workflow and systems management
Provide first line support for end-user requests and response to automated alerts.
Assist users with problem resolution and answer system usage questions
Configure and build new Linux images for production and development use.
Perform daily system health and capacity checks to comply with IT practices.
Maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures.
Work collaboratively with other systems administration and network staff.
Work collaboratively with development, QA and other administrators to develop and implement improved deployment practices.
Monitor the availability of patches and updates, evaluate the importance to our environment and schedule installations accordingly..
Work with users to schedule application of patches, software updates and hardware upgrades.
Work with the Business Continuity Team to refine and test disaster recovery systems and procedures.
Work with hardware and software vendors to resolve hardware outages and software defects.
Keep current with latest Linux hardware and software technology, and evaluate technologies as needed.
Future 7x24 on-call rotation for support of production systems required.
Qualifications:
The key criteria is continuous experience as a Linux systems administrator preferably in a large scale Linux mission-critical environment where best IT practices are followed.
